 | June 07 update: The SAT was revamped in 2005. A new writing section was added, worth 800 points, making the best score possible 2400 rather than 1600. Interestingly, colleges and the average student have been quite conservative in the way they look at SAT results. Most students still report their score conversationally in terms of the 1600 scale, ignoring the writing score. And many colleges also look primarily at the math/reading score and hold the writing score separate as if it doesn't really count. However, it's obvious to us that this will gradually change. As colleges build a history of the writing scores of successful students, they will be more ready to make admission decisions based on total SAT score (i.e. out of 2400). We advise our students to practice all three sections of the SAT. We offer a special 6-session program on the essay potion of the test that we call esSAy-T. |
